At the "Elbrus" ski resort in Kabardino-Balkaria, construction and installation work has begun on a new route of the "red" level of complexity. Currently, the processing of rocks and preparing the roadbed for the future route is underway.

As part of the first stage of the project, specification documents were executed and all necessary preparatory work was carried out. Snow-retaining barriers will be installed in the area of the route to protect against avalanches. It is planned to complete all works and open the facility in the upcoming winter season.

The new route will start at the "Gara-Bashi" station, at an altitude of 3,846 meters. The average width is about 40 meters. It offers a variety of recreation for experienced skiers and snowboarders. Its length along the slope will be 1.5 km, the height difference is more than 400 meters.
"Currently, there is one ski track at the "Gara-Bashi" — "Mir" section, which also has a red level of difficulty. The launch of a new one will relieve it, and skiing in the high season will become more comfortable," KSK CEO Hasan Timizhev notes.

Currently, the resort has more than 15 km of ski trails, seven lifts are open. In 2015, KSK JSC launched the third stage of the cable car here, which became the highest mountain in Europe. In the future, the company plans to build three more cable cars and nine ski trails.

On July 10, the "Elbrus" resort was opened after the quarantine. In addition to cable cars, hotels, restaurants and cafes in the Elbrus region have started operating. To comply with the recommendations for prevention of COVID-19, when moving on cable cars, it is allowed to put no more than two people in one car. At the initiative of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Government has adopted a set of measures to support small and medium-sized businesses in the tourism industry. Entrepreneurs can get deferred payments, preferential credit, funds for disinfection and prevention of coronavirus infection, and free educational programs have been launched.
