During a working visit to Astrakhan, Minister of economic development Maxim Reshetnikov held a meeting on the social and economic development of the Astrakhan region with Governor Igor Babushkin. "In the post - covid economy, one of the key issues on the government's agenda is regional development. Astrakhan region is a really promising region in terms of logistics, communications and cross - border cooperation, as well as industry, agriculture and tourism," Maxim Reshetnikov said.
The key goal of the visit of the Ministry of Economic Development team is to accelerate the creation of a port Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the Caspian coast near the seaport in the village of Olya. The Astrakhan region has already sent an application to the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia. The project will contribute to the development of the region's transit potential and increase the competitiveness of Russian ports on the Caspian sea. As part of the creation of a port SEZ in the Astrakhan region, it is planned to create the largest container hub in the South of Russia.
Igor Babushkin thanked the Minister for his attention to the region and noted that despite the difficulties with the regional budget related to the consequences of the epidemic, the regional authorities continue to work on the implementation of major projects. "Despite the decline in business activity during the period of self-isolation and subsequent restrictions, the Astrakhan region managed to maintain revenues at a fairly stable level. Real wages in the region has increased by 4.6% compared to the same period in 2019. By the end of the year, we expect GRP to reach over 510 billion rubles," said Igor Babushkin.
During the working visit, Maxim Reshetnikov will also inspect the Krasnye Barricades shipyard, the LOTOS port special economic zone, and hold a meeting with local entrepreneurs to discuss the effectiveness of the measures taken to support businesses during the pandemic. The Minister will also hold a meeting on the implementation of the President's instructions for the comprehensive development of the region and the construction of new social facilities - schools, hospitals, cultural and sports facilities. "The regional agenda is extremely important for the current Government. The Prime Minister is currently on a working visit to the far East, and the Ministry of Economic Development team is working here in Astrakhan. There is a clear understanding that the implementation of the goals that the President has set for us and national projects is possible only with the participation of regions. Some of them are implemented by regional teams, so constant interaction is very important, " Maxim Reshetnikov said.
