During his visit to the Kaluga region, Minister of economic development Maxim Reshetnikov took part in a meeting on the creation of a new innovative scientific and technological center in Obninsk. In particular, they discussed the ISTC project as an element of the ecosystem of integrated city development.

The initiative to build an ISTC in the Kaluga region was submitted by NRNU MEPhI in January, and the application is currently under consideration by the Ministry of Economic Development.

"Of course, this is a strong bid. There are a number of unique advantages associated with such a technological partner as Rosatom," the Minister told reporters after the trip. He noted that the Ministry of Economic Development and the region will jointly finalize the application before submitting it to the Government of the Russian Federation.

It is planned that the centre will be established on the basis of Park of nuclear and medical technologies, and the main investor of the project is Rosatom, the planned portfolio cost is estimated at 18 billion from 2020 to 2026 years.

The proposed activities of the center will be nuclear research and development, nuclear medicine and pharmaceuticals, as well as information and communication technologies.
