Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov met with Alok Sharma, Chairman of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 26) to the UNFCCC Climate Summit.
They discussed preparations for the upcoming Glasgow Conference and the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate.
According to the Minister, the reduction of CO2 emissions is necessary and should be achieved where it is profitable and does not harm economic development and welfare.
Maxim Reshetnikov expressed the hope that before the conference it would be possible to reconcile the positions of the parties on the climate agenda, including on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. "All decisions made under the UN Framework Convention should reflect a shared understanding among countries, including on approaches to climate projects and verification of carbon accounting," he said.
The Minister also said that Russia is creating national regulations to limit greenhouse gas emissions and developing green financing to ensure that the environmental agenda serves the country's development.
