Russia’s economic development minister Maksim Reshetnikov held a meeting with the British ambassador to the Russian Federation Deborah Bronnert.
The main topic was preparation for the forthcoming Glasgow International UN Conference on climate change which will get under way already at the end of this week.
The Sides exchanged expectations of the results of the Conference. The Minister voiced the main points of the Russian stand prior to the Conference and expressed the hope that on the basis of its results it will be possible to complete the talks on the implementation rules of the Paris Agreement.
The Minister also shared the progress made in Russia in creating national regulation in the field of limiting greenhouse gas emissions and “green” financing.
“At the present time we are creating our own carbon regulation system. With this end in view a law on limiting greenhouse gas emissions has been adopted which presupposes introduction of mandatory carbon accountability. It will be subject to verification”, said the head of the Economic Development Ministry. According to him a mechanism of climatic project implementation is scheduled to be launched in Russia from next year.
The Sides also discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation of Russia and Great Britain following the COP26 in the field of low carbon development and “green” finances.
