On December 29, 2020 the first meeting of the Russian-Chinese Standing Working Group on Cooperation in the field of Service Trade was held in a video conference format under the chairmanship of the Director of the Department of Bipartite Cooperation Development of the Ministry of Economic development of Russia, Alexander Dianov.
The Director of the Department mentioned that service trade plays an increasingly important role in the bipartite agenda of economic relations.
According to the Bank of Russia, in 2019, the volume of service trade with China exceeded 7.5 billion US dollars, increasing more than 3 times compared to 2010. Due to quarantine restrictions, the service sector became one of the most affected industries in 2020. The joint work in terms of of the working group is designed to promote the sustainable development of cooperation in the service sector between Russia and China.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation in the area of service trade, shared information about the development of the tertiary sector of the national economies and about the general state of bipartite service trade, came to understanding of the necessity for beginning the implementation of the agreements stipulated in the Road map to increase bipartite trade in goods and services to 200 billion USD by 2024.
The participants noted the importance of implementing joint educational projects in the field of training national transport industry personnel with knowledge of Russian and Chinese languages on the basis of higher educational institutions of Russia and China.
”Russian animated content makers are interested in strengthening cooperation with China, including joint production, cinema distribution, sale of content to TV channels, cooperation with leading Chinese online platforms, participation in specialized markets and festivals," Alexander Dianov said.
Russia and China are popular destinations for tourist trips among their citizens. China took the first place among non-CIS countries in terms of the number of inbound tourist trips to Russia.
China took the third position on the departure of Russian citizens abroad for tourist purposes. The Russian and Chinese participants of the discussion expressed hope that after the normalization of the epidemiological situation in the world, tourist services will be able to be restored quickly.
