The uncertainty of the parameters of the future carbon tax mechanism does not allow us to reliably assess the possible losses of Russian companies that supply their products to the EU markets. The Ministry is in constant contact with the EU partners. The last time this topic was raised in a bilateral format was at the meeting between Minister Maxim Reshetnikov and the Head of the European Union Mission in Russia, Markus Ederer, in early July.
If introduced, the border adjustment carbon mechanism should be non-discriminatory, consistent with WTO rules and will not create obstacles to mutual trade. Our approaches are also supported by other WTO members, including China and the US.
